Russian Strikes Kill 12 Across Ukraine, Officials Report



Devastation Across Ukraine

Overnight Russian drone and missile attacks left at least 12 dead and dozens injured across Ukraine, according to regional officials and emergency services. The Kyiv region suffered significant damage, with houses set ablaze by aerial strikes.


Zhytomyr: Three children aged 8, 12, and 17 were killed, and 10 others injured. Residential homes were destroyed and damaged in the attacks.


Mykolaiv: A man in his 70s was killed when a drone struck a residential building. Five others sustained injuries.


Khmelnytskyi: Four fatalities and five injuries were reported, along with the destruction of six private homes and damage to 20 others.


Kyiv: Fires and explosions injured 11 people, damaged residential buildings, and forced hundreds to seek shelter in metro stations.

This tragedy coincided with Kyiv Day celebrations, a traditional holiday in the capital.
Russia Reports Drone Interceptions

Russia’s defense ministry claimed to have intercepted 95 Ukrainian drones targeting multiple regions, including Moscow.


Flights were temporarily suspended at Moscow airports.


In the Tula region near Moscow, drone debris caused property damage but no casualties.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed 12 drones targeting the capital were shot down.
Prisoner Swaps Continue Amid Escalation

Ukraine and Russia exchanged hundreds of prisoners over the weekend in one of the largest swaps since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.


Friday: 390 prisoners from each side were released.


Saturday: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the return of 307 more Ukrainians.


Future Exchanges: Both nations agreed to exchange a total of 1,000 prisoners each, with additional swaps expected soon.

The negotiations marked the first in-person talks between the two sides in three years, held in Turkey.
International Efforts for Peace

A two-hour phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed a proposed ceasefire.


Trump: Described the conversation as productive, stating that negotiations would begin immediately.


Putin: Acknowledged working toward a "possible future peace" but has not agreed to a 30-day ceasefire.
