Liam Payne's Cause of Death Confirmed as Polytrauma

Liam Payne died on 16 October after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires

Singer Liam Payne's medical cause of death has been officially recorded as "polytrauma," according to a UK inquest.

The former One Direction star tragically passed away on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Polytrauma refers to multiple traumatic injuries affecting various parts of the body and organ systems.

The inquest, which opened at Buckinghamshire Coroner's Court on December 17, revealed that it may take "some time" to determine the full circumstances surrounding Payne’s death. The proceedings have been adjourned until a pre-inquest review scheduled for November 6, the court confirmed.

Dr. Roberto Victor Cohen, a medical professional in Argentina, identified the cause of death as "polytrauma." Payne was formally identified with the assistance of funeral directors in Buckinghamshire, the hearing was told.

Senior Coroner Crispin Butler explained during the inquest:
"While there are ongoing investigations in Argentina into the circumstances of Liam's death, over which I have no legal jurisdiction, it is anticipated that obtaining the necessary information, particularly regarding how Liam came by his death, may take some time through formal channels with the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office."

Five Charged in Connection with Payne’s Death

Argentine authorities have charged five individuals in connection with the 31-year-old singer's death.

The hotel’s manager, Gilda Martin, receptionist Esteban Grassi, and Payne’s friend Roger Nores have been charged with manslaughter. Two additional hotel employees, Ezequiel Pereyra and Braian Paiz, have been charged with supplying drugs.

In November, toxicology tests conducted by the prosecutor’s office in Argentina revealed the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in Payne’s system. A post-mortem examination concluded that his death resulted from "multiple trauma" and "internal and external hemorrhage" caused by the fall.

Medical reports also suggested that Payne may have fallen while in a state of partial or complete unconsciousness. Prosecutors ruled out the possibility of a conscious or deliberate act, stating that Payne was unaware of his actions at the time of the fall.

A Legacy in Music

Liam Payne rose to global fame after appearing on The X Factor and joining the boyband One Direction in the early 2010s. The group became one of the biggest pop acts of the decade before going on indefinite hiatus in 2016.

Payne's funeral was held in November in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. Attendees included his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik, as well as his girlfriend Kate Cassidy and former partner Cheryl, with whom he shares a son.

The world continues to mourn the loss of a beloved artist whose talent and charm left a lasting mark on the music industry.
